This is the race map for the 3 race series for season 2015/16
Update 8/6/2016
Hello all
Sorry about not sending a loft report until now. The falcons have been giving the birds and ourselves hell, the birds were too scared to even leave the loft.
We lost several on the lawn in front of the loft and it had them terrified.
About 3 weeks ago after myself giving the falcons hell, we finally were able to get the birds up for more than ten minutes. We have been letting our birds out first, loosing approximately 25 to BOP's
Two Blacks and a Peregrine turn up within minutes of letting birds out, no matter what time. The birds are now a lot fitter and I've managed to control BOP's a lot better, only loosing 6 birds in the last 3 weeks.
They have been tossed for the last 10 days, so far so good. Depending on the weather they will be out to 75 Km by the end of this week. The chip rings will be put on the weekend of 18th June and all replacements/ spares will be allocated that weekend. Flyers will be notified if and how many of their birds have been lost from PMV and tossing.
The race dates depending on the weather will be 3rd July-Galah, 31st July-Piangil, and Booroorban-28th August.
After replacements have been allocated, anyone not wishing to have a replacement just send me an email.
Things are finally looking good for the season. All the best Fricky
Update 28/3/2016
Hello all.
We have not had a sick bird since about 10 th Febuary .
All the birds have been out and about for several weeks now and enjoying it after being locked up for 8 weeks.
A lot of them are in full moult now and are not doing much flying yet .
Plenty of time before the first race ,the dates of the 3 races will be on here by the end of April.
After talking to flyers that had PMV we have decided not to allocate spares /replacements until the end of May after they have been tossed several times in case any of them have brain damage from PMV.
The chip rings will also put on at that time as well.
All the birds have now arrived , some were not sent until they had full immunity .
Just over 400 are now in the loft ready and waiting .
We will post some photos soon and will be doing a loft report every 3/4 weeks to keep everyone up to date on the birds progress.
All I can say about PMV is it is an experience that I hope that none of you have to go through.
We still are not sure where it came from and we will probably never know ..If every one keeps on top of vaccinating it will eventually die out until some one gets slack.
There has been app 60 lost in the KWC loft and app 30 of our babies lost as well.
Happy flying and all the best Fricky
Update 17/2/2016
We now have PMV in our lofts, it had to happen eventually .
PMV in the KWC loft has all but ceased with only 1 bird showing signs in the last 10 days.
There has been app 12% of birds lost in that loft which I think is fairly low compared to what has been lost in other lofts in the past.
We initially lost a few of our fancy birds which only recently been vaccinated.
In the other lofts we have lost squeakers from a few days old up to about 6 to 7 weeks old .
All up there has been app 6% lost including the fancy ones.
From what I have been told there is still quite a few in metro Adelaide that has not vaccinated.
Flyers evidently don't realize that there is not 99.5 % immunity availably to the birds until 4 to 6 weeks after the final dose ,ie is if vac at 4 weeks the birds have not got full protection until they are around8 to 10 weeks of age.
Most birds are out flying a few bit by then.
As it has to be notified to the relevant authorities I would suggest that flyers that do not do this should be banned from racing for a period of 12 months.
AS the 3 flyers and myself from Horsham do not know for sure where it came from , it puts a lot doubts on a couple of flyers not far from Horsham.
As we four all received birds from one fellow not that far from Horsham it would be nice to eliminate that loft from spreading.
It has cost quite a bit of money and time to try to treat the birds and disinfect the lofts.
They one thing that has not got any thing to do with the outbreak, my partner has got a very bad case of shingles due to her being worried sick about the virus and the fact we have lost other peoples birds.
We have only lost about 10 babies since last Tuesday.
All I can say it doesn't cost much to vaccinate so please everyone that hasn't done it please do it ASAP , if only for piece of mind.
We would not have gone through this if every one had got there ass into gear and vaccinated .
I have kept it at Wellington at this time and for every bodies sake I hope that is where it will stay.
All the best to every one and happy vaccination.
Fricky
Update for PMV at Wellington. 2/2/2016
So far the virus has only affected the 4 sections of the loft that was infected at the start of January , either by good luck or good management or a bit of both.
There has been 44 deaths so far with 4 still not looking too good.
All birds that have died and not going to be replaced will be replaced by our squeakers that were intended for breeder plate sales.
As we cannot enter these sales I thought this would be the best thing to do, I hope everyone is happy with this.
On the 14th January we decided to make it compulsory that all birds must must be vaccinated at least 14 days prior to entry into the loft.
We vaccinate our babies at app 21 days and then again 35 days ,with the 3rd needle at 65 days without any problems yet.
By doing them 3 times I think it might stop our babies from contracting PMV ,so far no problems.
Colin Walker suggests that it could take up to 60 days from the first outbreak for us to have the all clear. Chip rings will be put about the end of March and all entrants will be notified if they have needed spares. I am fairly confident the infected bird came from Ballarat as all other birds in those sections came from every other state.
At the 25th January there were at least 3 lofts in Ballarat that had the virus.
Anyone wishing to know more can send an email or give me a ring .
Best of luck to every one and their birds.
Regards Fricky
PMV has been detected in kids with cancer one loft race at wellington it is not as severe as has been in Victoria evidently one or more birds that came from Victoria had PMV
However it or they did not show any signs of illness on arrival it has a 14 day incubation period which makes it a bit tricky all birds have been vaccinated on arrival including those that had all ready been done before being sent.
Some of those birds have taken ill as well, we are following the full protocols set out by the authorities everyone that has birds in the race will be contacted by me asap any help regarding the birds that are sick would be appreciated
Hopefully i can keep it under control
At this time i have not had any problems with our own birds
Regards Lyndon Frick

Hello All,
Because of predicted winds on Sunday the 28th up to 50km/hr NNE at Booroorban the $10,000 birds will be released at Natallie Hill Rest area west of Wilcannia we don't want to have a situation occur as the Piangil race where the birds were pushed into Victoria and had to work all the way back, the Broken Hill Boys will be looking after and releasing the birds, release times will be on the website on Saturday and Sunday mornings.Distances are 546km from Natillie Hill and 1,072km from Wyandra
The 2yo's will be released from Wyandra approximately 7.30am, estimated time of arrival going by how long it took birds last year would expect them home from 10am depending on the wind on route

The 2 races today were very difficult, birds started to arrive home around 5pm and it was the first time we used the timing system for both races, I had set them both up in the system but with the late arrival the 2yo's started to come in at 5 pm and the young birds at 5.11pm the main screen had the young bird race on so they were recording and I was hesitant to check the 2yo's when I had a chance I checked and there were no 2yo registrations I believe the system can only register 1 race at a time so I have left the system on overnight, I left at 6.20pm and will have to go back tomorrow and print out what has arrived and upload onto the website tomorrow night. results available are
Piangil
1st Michael Hawkins, 2nd Greg Hodgins, 3rd Bill and Sue Patterson, 4th Greg Hodgins, 5th David Clarke, 6th Steve and Michael Klassens, 7th Don and Christine King, 8th L Gatt and D Kettering, 9th Jack Vanderlinden, 10th Michael Hawkins, 11th Rob Nelson, 12th Glenn Matthews, 13th Bill Walker, 14th David Buxton
Hay 2yo

If we can only have one race recording at a time the final races may need to be combined as we will clearly see the 2015 young bird and the 2014 2yo birds on the race result list ?????
Piangil young birds were up at 10.45am and cleared in 10 minutes, there was very little wind at the release which was in a North Easterly direction
2yo birds are up at Hay at 8.30am in a 5-10km/hr NE wind and left in 2 minutes,
Hello all, both hamper lists for Piangil and Hay are below, there were 8 birds unable to make race due to injury and (2) 2014 birds were hampered in young bird race by accident, they will not be in young bird race but are in the 2yo Hay,race please check hamper lists, all the best for tomorrow. 30/7/2016 Weather is looking good for both races on 7/8/2016 Piangil for W10K young birds and the 2yo birds from Hay, p.s. some owners were unsure of their birds racing in the 2yo series re flying distance, below is an excerpt from Archive Coleambally 2015 info
"There are two options for the birds .
Firstly they can be returned to owners / syndicates or they can stay for a 700 mile race next year.
I will be ringing everyone that we have as the contact for the birds in the next few days to find out what they wish to happen to their birds."
2YO UPDATE --- next race is 500km east on Sunday 7/8/2016 from Hay and last race on 27/8/2016 from Wyandra, all birds need to be paid up for 2yo classic ($100) by 5th August 2016 to be eligible, we want to run a $20 pool for each bird and this will go to prize money i.e. 1st 2nd and 3rd, any bird not paid for by 5th August will be allocated to flyers wishing to have a bird in the 2yo race with owners consent, breeders retain ownership of bird
please contact Fricky by email or phone Regards, Geoff Bell
Hay birds will be released at 8am on the 7th and Piangil birds released at 10am weather permitting (Hay 500km and Piangil 357km) please let Fricky or Nicky know if you are coming for catering purposes thanks

I'm sorry to inform everyone that the first two race dates have to be changed as we had a fire in our battery shed and inverter room last Sunday.
We have stand alone power and a short happened with one of the batteries and started the fire. I couldn't put it out and by the time the C.F.S. arrived everything was on fire and destroyed, about $30,000 damage.
We are currently running our generator to power our house. We cant run the race until we get the electricity working properly again with batteries and inverter. This is because if the generator cuts out all the Tipes, computer etc will stop and the birds won't be able to be scanned properly on arrival.
On a different topic, P.M.V. has definitely run its course here. A few of our fancy birds have raised squeakers and are now about 10-12 weeks old and have not been vaccinated and none have been sick.
Colin Walker told me that after approximately 21-28 days after the last sick bird that the virus should die out, which it has , thank God.
The dates of the races will be 17th July, 7th August and 28th August. Anyone wishing to come to either or all races, could you please notify us so Niki can cater for everyone.
We were going to have BBQ lamb chops for the Galah race but the freezers were destroyed containing the 6 lambs I had just processed for the BBQ and us. We might be eating rabbit if I can shoot a few.
We are still having problems with Falcons mainly on tosses, with up to 20 coming home the next day. All the spares have now been allocated, see the list below for details.
All the best Fricky
Just a bit of information for those interested we had 58 birds die from PMV with another app 55 that recovered from it.
Up to last weekend all but 1 had been lost or taken by BOPs during tossing or loft flying.
So in my opinion if a bird recovers from PMV it is a waste of time and money to proceed to train them as I think they may have brain damage or such.
Any way hopefully every one keeps vaccinating and we don't see it again ever or for a long time.
Fricky
